Vaultaire is a local-first encrypted vault for iOS that uses pattern-based AES-256-GCM encryption to protect photos, videos, and files with zero-knowledge architecture and no account required.
What is Vaultaire?
Vaultaire is an iPhone app developed by Wraxle LLC that locks photos, videos, and any file type into encrypted vaults unlocked by drawing a pattern on a 5×5 grid. The pattern generates a 256-bit AES key on-device using the Secure Enclave. No account, email, or phone number is needed, and no personal data is collected. The app uses zero-knowledge design so that not even the developers can access stored files.
How does Vaultaire work?
- Define your pattern – Draw a unique geometric shape on a 5×5 grid. The shape is converted into a high-entropy encryption key directly on your device’s Secure Enclave.
- Load the vault – Import photos, documents, and notes. Files are instantly encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being written to disk.
- Lock & vanish – Close the app. Decryption keys are wiped from memory. Without the pattern, the files appear as random noise.
Key Features
- Pattern encryption – A drawn shape on a 5×5 grid becomes a 256-bit AES-256-GCM key. No PINs or passwords. Learn more →
- Plausible deniability – Every pattern opens a different vault. There is no way to prove other vaults exist. Learn more →
- Duress mode – A special pattern silently destroys all other vaults if you are forced to unlock. Learn more →
- Secure sharing – Share vaults via a secret phrase. Control expiration, access count, and prevent data export. Learn more →
- Encrypted iCloud backup – Optional off-site backup where data is encrypted locally before reaching Apple’s servers. Learn more →
- Hidden vaults – Storage space is obfuscated; forensic analysis cannot determine vault count or contents. Learn more →
- Recovery phrase – Each vault generates a secret phrase that can regenerate the encryption key if the pattern is forgotten. Learn more →
Who is it for?
- Privacy-conscious users – Anyone who wants to hide sensitive photos or documents from casual snoopers or forced search.
- Journalists and activists – Use duress mode and plausible deniability to protect multiple sets of data under coercion.
- Professionals handling confidential files – Securely share vaults with controlled access, expiration, and no server-side storage.
Pricing
Vaultaire is free for up to 5 vaults with 100 files per vault. A paid tier unlocks unlimited vaults and files. No account or subscription is required to use the free version.
FAQ
What happens if I forget my pattern?
You are given a secret recovery phrase that can regenerate the vault encryption key. If you lose both, the data is permanently inaccessible — there are no backdoors.
Do I need an account?
No. Vaultaire works immediately after installation. No email, phone number, or signup is required.
Can Apple see my files?
No. Even with optional encrypted iCloud backup, files are encrypted locally before upload. Without your pattern key, it is mathematically impossible for Apple to read the data.
How many vaults can I have for free?
The free version supports up to 5 vaults, each with up to 100 files. The paid version removes these limits.
Does Vaultaire collect my personal data?
With your permission, the app collects crash and basic analytics data only. No identity, accounts, or personal data are ever stored. You can revoke permission at any time.
