    About this product

Code Word Solver is a free web tool that decodes codeword puzzles by matching patterns with repeated-letter constraints across three dictionary tiers, returning every valid word with definitions where available.

    What is Code Word Solver?

Code Word Solver takes a pattern of known letters, dots, and repeated-number digits (1–9) and returns all words that satisfy both positional letters and the codeword rule that same number = same letter. It works on any web browser, has no signup or install, and uses three dictionary tiers (Pocket, Original, Big) covering over 350,000 words. The solver is built specifically for codeword puzzles (also called code-crackers), not crosswords or anagrams.

    Key Features

    • Three dictionary tiers — Pocket (20k everyday words), Original (111k standard British English), and Big (362k including archaic, technical, and specialist entries). Switch tiers to match puzzle difficulty.
    • Repeated-letter digit patterns — Use digits (1–9) wherever the same unknown letter repeats. Entering 1.1.. finds only words where first and third letters match (e.g. erect, event). Dots stand for unconstrained unknowns.
    • Two‑pattern solver — Solve two crossing or related words simultaneously by entering patterns together, dramatically narrowing candidates. Open the Multi-Pattern Solver.
    • Exclude letters field — Enter letters already decoded elsewhere that cannot appear in this answer to cut the candidate list instantly.
    • Prefer common words toggle — When enabled, familiar matches appear first and less common results are collapsed. Useful when Original returns too many candidates.
    • Definitions on results — Where stored, a definition appears with each matched word to help judge whether it fits the puzzle context. Not every entry has a definition.
    • Submit missing words — If a word doesn't appear, suggest it via the Submit a Word page for future dictionary updates.

Who should use Code Word Solver?

    • Codeword puzzle solvers — Anyone stuck on a newspaper, magazine, or online codeword who needs to find matching words given partial letters and repeated-number constraints.
    • Puzzle constructors — Set your own codeword grids and use the solver to verify that only intended words match given patterns and to check for unintended alternatives.
    • Word‑game enthusiasts — Players of code-cracker or cipher puzzles who want a fast, constraint‑aware tool that enforces same‑number/same‑letter rules automatically.
    • Language learners — Explore word patterns, repeated-letter shapes, and dictionary breadth (Pocket vs. Big) to discover new vocabulary in context.

What can you do with Code Word Solver?

    • Solve a single word pattern — Enter known letters and digit‑linked unknowns (e.g. 11.E for ooze) and instantly see all dictionary matches with definitions. Use single‑pattern solver.
    • Solve two patterns together — When two entries share a decoded letter, use the Multi-Pattern Solver to find only word pairs that satisfy both constraints at once, saving manual cross‑checking.
    • Exclude already‑used letters — After decoding a letter elsewhere, enter it in the Exclude letters field to eliminate any answer containing that letter, even if the pattern itself doesn’t show it.
